Our Favorite Marketing Books, Blogs and Podcasts in January
I’m the newest member of Find and Convert, joining the team remotely from Brooklyn, NY. My new co-workers — Bernie, Billie, David and Danielle — have been incredibly friendly and welcoming, but being 1000 miles apart, I thought it might be fun to get to know each other better through what each of us were reading and listening to this month. And maybe you, our blog readers, will learn something new, too!
Bernie Borges, CEO & Host of the Social Business Engine Podcast
“What makes Everybody Writes such a great book is how practical it is. It starts with the “why” of writing in modern business. Any business, small, medium or large who is engaging in modern marketing practices needs to understand the importance of effective writing. From email to social media to e-books, writing is a big part of everyday business life.”
Some of Bernie’s Favorite Podcasts:
Billie Ginther, Digital Marketing Strategist and Transformer
Blog Post: How to Get 200+ New Subscribers from 1 LinkedIn Article
Blog Post: How to Plan Your 2015 Content Calendar
Blog Post: The Decay and Fall of Guest Blogging for SEO
“I read 2 posts written by Rachel Foster — how to get new subscribers from LinkedIn articles, and how to plan your 2015 content calendar. I not only became an immediate fan of hers, but she inspired me to write this blog post on content and target audience alignment.
My other favorite article this month was an oldie from Matt Cutts, written almost a year ago on the decay and fall of guest blogging. It’s another reminder from Google that audience-centric digital strategy employing well written, original content that is highly relevant to your audience always win in the long haul over short-term-get-SERP-rankings-fast schemes every time.”
Danielle Devening-Limon, Creative Director
“Lifehacker is general go-to for all things related to productivity, design showcases, and creative tools and apps on/offline. Smashing Magazine is a daily stop for some more in-depth looks at coding techniques and design strategies, plus trends and helpful tutorials. I’m always looking for design inspiration, from packaging and signage to print issues of Architectural Digest and National Geographic. I love the ability to flip through easily on my tablet, but I think I will always prefer print.“

David LeFevre, Director of Digital Marketing Services
“There is so much information out there about business, marketing and life, it can easily swallow up your entire work day and every second of spare time if your’e not careful. You need to have limits to control which sources you follow, get emails from, read and watch.
Besides the suggestions, blogs, newsletters, podcasts and media channels from my colleagues at Find and Convert, my favorite marketing sources include SearchEngineLand, Website Magazine, the Moz Blog and my LinkedIn feed. As an avid Florida Fisherman, I also take time to visit TheOnlineFisherman.com and CapMel.com for their content and forums.”
Carrie Gallagher, Inbound Marketing Specialist
“I just started reading this book last night, but I’m obsessed with it — and thanks to one of our Social Business Engine guests, Hunter Boyle, I’m going to the NYC launch party tonight! As someone who can relate to being a brand “Zombie” when excitedly recommending products and services, Shankman’s message speaks to me loud and clear. If you want an army of loyal evangelists for your business, get this book!”
“In this beautifully illustrated book, you’ll find a lot of the same themes from Seth Godin’s daily blog, but the marketing of the book itself is genius: if you buy one, you’ll get an extra copy to give to someone who needs to be nudged outside their comfort zone. Buy three, you get five. Horizontal marketing … something to watch for in 2015?”
