Advance Your Prospecting to Another Level with LinkedIn Find Nearby

Advance Your Prospecting to Another Level with LinkedIn “Find Nearby”

Did you ever think about prospects that might be in the same vicinity as you, and wish there were some way to know about them? The LinkedIn Find Nearby feature for the mobile app connects you with prospects who are near you in real-time. Through the use of beacon technology, which uses Bluetooth, it identifies other members around you who have activated the feature – and not just your first-degree connections.

Viveka von Rosen, Chief Visibility Officer at Vengreso, explains how to turn the feature on, as well as many other details in this video. If you’d prefer to go the silent route – keep reading.

'Find Nearby' is the latest innovation by #LinkedIn for their mobile app! Here's Viveka von Rosen @LinekdInExpert showing how it can be used to connect with other people. #LinkedInFindNearby #LinkedInUpdates #SocialSellingClick To Tweet

How to Use LinkedIn’s “Find Nearby” Feature

When it comes to learning new LinkedIn tips, Viveka is always top of mind. She is THE LinkedIn Expert, after all. I’m not sure I would have found this feature on my own.

To access it, you’ll want to open your LinkedIn app and go to My Network. At the top, you’ll see Find Nearby in the center – click it. If there’s anyone around you with the page open, you’ll see their names in a list. The previous settings mentioned in this video have since been removed. Currently, the only option to find people around you is to keep the page open.

Prospecting with LinkedIn’s Mobile App

Living in a smaller city, I haven’t been able to connect with anyone using the “Find Nearby” feature yet. As Viveka says in the video, it will be phenomenal to have at conferences or trade shows. She adds, “This probably works really well in San Francisco,” or any other large, tech-savvy city. We’ll have to wait and see how long it takes to catch on with more LinkedIn users.

If you’re ready to take your prospecting on LinkedIn to another level – i.e., you want to get face to face – I highly recommend checking out the new LinkedIn Find Nearby Feature, especially if you’re in a largely populated area.
