Trends in Social Media

Jason shares his keen insights. Highlights from my interview with Jason include…

No Business Can Ignore Social Media

Social media is impacting all businesses. No business can afford to ignore the business impact of social. Whether confronted with a crisis or governing their employees’ use of social, or monitoring their competitors’ use of social to market themselves, all businesses must determine their strategy on social.

Internal Advocacy

A growing trend in social is internal employee advocacy. Recognition is high that employees are an influential factor in how a business markets. But, employee advocacy requires a plan with infrastructure to support it.

The Role of the Marketing Department

The role of the marketing department is evolving with the continued growth of social media in business. In particular the role of the social media manager is growing with more organizations dedicating a management level position to focus on effective use of social media.

Social Business Technology

Jason speaks of two trends. He sees niche social business technology players and enterprise dashboard providers. The dashboard providers are large technology providers who seek to be a one-stop-shop for all social media tools to large enterprises. The niche companies provide a specialized functionality such as listening, contests, analytics, etc. selling into businesses of all sizes.

Advice for Newbies in Social Media

Jason’s advice for newbies is don’t ignore social media! Invest in talent, specifically content creation and analytics and metrics talent to monitor, analyze and help direct effective use of social media activities. He also points out the importance of an open and transparent mindset to be effective on social media.
